The Paste Papers of the Golden Hind Press

Florham-Madison: The Farleigh Dickinson University Library and The Tideline Press, 1983. One of 70 copies, this out-of-series and labeled "proof" and signed by the paste-paper artist Delight Rushmore Lewis. 313 x 160mm. [38] pages. 18 mounted specimens, with 7 additional specimens loosely inserted. Original linen-backed boards, printed paper label on spine, untrimmed, with deckle edges preserved. A fine copy. Item #410635

The author's proof copy with additional specimens, inscribed by the author to the bookbinder Jerilynn Glenn Davis, and with a note loosely inserted stating that "we couldn't find enough of the right swatches, so please, herewith is my proof copy..."

The colophon: "Utilizing Butti & Novarese's Nova Augustea hand-set with G. Trump's Trump Mediaeval, dampened, hand-made Fabriano Pace paper, Fairview paste papers made by Delight Lewis in the 1930s and a Vandercook 215 press, this edition has been designed, printed and bound by Leonard E. Seastone at The Tideline Press. Jack Fitterer, James H. Fraser, Sibylle Fraser & Renée I. Weber have assisted with the project. The Pace paper as well as the plum-colored, mould-made cover paper have survived since the closing of the Golden Hind Press in 1955. Limitation of the edition was based upon the amount of Fairview paper extant. The edition is 70 copies, of which you hold number [proof]."
