First edition of the twenty-three-year-old poet's first book. The dedication copy to her mother, inscribed by Deutsch on the front free endpaper: "For dearest Mamma, with love from Babette. April 1919." The printed dedication reads: "To My Mother and the Memory of My Father." During her life Deutsch was also a Columbia professor, a critic, novelist and translator, and secretary to Thorstein Veblen. This is the Jonathan Goodwin-John Fleming copy (from his personal collection; sold Christie's New York, 18 November 1988, lot 104). (BA).
