[Budapest?]: [198?]. Oblong (9 x 19 cm). In Hungarian and English. [1], vii, 40 pages (the last on the inner rear wrapper). Printed wrappers. Some very light toning to sheet edges, a few small creases on covers, but generally in very clean condition. Item #407224

First edition of Háy's second artists book, which was published underground as samizdat. The introduction by the Hungarian psychologist Ferenc Mérei is translated by Hay's partner, the dissident György Krassó, as "The Two Sexes". Hay was renowned in her native Hungary for her experimental art and films. Considered a subversive during the Communist era, she and Krassó emigrated to London in 1985 to escape persecution by Hungarian authorities.

Quite scarce: OCLC/Worldcat lists only the copies at MoMA, the Getty, and the British Library, and calls these second editions. As the book was published clandestinely, without imprint, place, publisher, or date, its record in OCLC is unclear. The present copy bears no edition statement.

Price: $750.00
