First edition, presentation copy, with a full-page inscription by Eagan on the front free endpaper to Dr. C. Ward Crampton: "a fellow devotee of the strenuous life and one that keeps the American youth on the straight and healthy road. With best wishes Eddie Eagan Nov. 19 1937 New York City." Dr. Crampton (1877-1964) was an author, physician, professor, scientist and consultant known for his active promotion of public service, physical fitness, and hygiene. Eagan was an outstanding athlete, known as the only person to win gold medals in both the Summer and Winter Olympics (in boxing and four-man bobsled respectively).
