Engraved frontispiece, title, and 38 plates (including the first example of a 'dark plate', and the first use of horizontal plates) by Hablot K. Browne, all etchings except three (those facing pp. 325, 352, and 439) are lithographs (Hatton and Cleaver noting there is no priority of issue between the etchings and lithographs). Contemporary half calf, marbled boards. Spine sunned, lower rear joint partly split, front hinge cracked by threads holding, leather a bit dry, some toning to sheets and occasional foxing, a few plate imprints shaved. Item #406386
