FIRST EDITION, in the original cloth. J.A. Herbert became the Deputy Keeper of the Manuscripts in the British Museum, where he specialized in illumination and the medieval tales. While working at the British Museum, and in addition to this work, he wrote Volume iii of the 'Catalogue of Romances' in 1911, 'Schools of Illumination' (1914-1930), and 'The French Text of Ancrene Riwle' in 1944.
