Original exhibition catalogue of Brassai's photographs of Paris, inscribed by his wife Madame Gilberte Brassaï on the title-page: "Pour Dereck [sic] Lindsay / ce catalogue de l'exposition à Carnavalet / qui lui rappellera Brassaï / Bien amicalement / Gilberte Brassaï / Paris Noel 1990." This exhibition of photographs was on display at the Musée Carnavalet from November 8, 1988 to January 8, 1989. The catalogue includes reproductions of many of Brassaï's most famous photographs, including many from his book 'Paris de Nuit' (1933). Derek Lindsay wrote under the pseudonym A.E. Ellis. His 1958 novel, The Rack, is a detailed account of the experience and received high acclaim from Graham Greene and Anthony Burgess and others.
