Full crimson straight-grained morocco gilt, all edges gilt, by Rivière, with a FORE-EDGE PAINTING BY C.B. CURRIE under the gold, a full-length (vertical) portrait of an officer of the Life Guards. In a black cloth folding case. Provenance: Sotheran Catalogue 87, item 864 (with their inkstamp on verso of front free endpaper); Hodson & Co. (sold at auction 4 November 1931, lot 219, bought by Stonehill. Several tiny spots of wear along lower board edges, overall a very fine and well-preserved copy. Item #408491

With manuscript attestation leaf at front signed by Miss Currie and designating this as no. 74 of the books with a Currie fore-edge painting. Weber 74, noting "On one occasion Sotheran offered to those who wanted a fore-edge painting commissioned: 'the costume of any regiment can be done to order.'"
