The author's page proofs, presentation copy, inscribed on the half-title: "These page-proofs of my forthcoming book are presented to my beloved friend / Mitchel E. Hadad / George Kheirallah / Jan. 1st 1952." The published edition from the University of New Mexico Press was issued in 1952. Hadad (d. 1981) immigrated from Syria in 1904; he was vice president of the Collegiate Manufacturing Company and active in Middle Eastern affairs. He founded the Salaam Club of New York to aid the Lebanese-Syrian business community. In 1960, he was awarded the Syrian Government's highest civilian honor for his efforts toward United States-Middle East cooperation.
