Scarce exhibition catalogue of the first solo show of Maison Martin Margiela, held 11 June to 17 August 1997. The show was as provocative as the designer: each of the 18 pieces he had created to that point were treated with yeast and mold to manipulate the colors and textures of the fabric. They were nearly disintegrated by the end of the show. The book is divided into tabbed sections, the first being color photographs; the second line drawings of the pieces with textual descriptions; the third a text on microbiology by Dutch agriculturalist Ad van Egeraat, Margiela's collaborator and co-conspirator for the exhibition.
