FIRST EDITION, fine presentation copy, inscribed by Stahly to John Sinclair. 2nd Baron Pentland, on the front flyleaf. Lord Pentland was known for his affiliation with the Work of G. I. Gurdjieff, and served as the President of the American Gurdjieff Foundation upon its establishment in 1953. He remained in that role until his death in 1984. The French-German sculptor François Stahly and his wife Claude formed an important collection of scupture in Crestet, France; the Stahly Foundation was established after the deaths to preserve the residence and art. François Stahly discusses Gurdjieff in an interview published in 'Gurdjieff: Essays and Reflections on the Man and His Teachings', ed. Jacob Needleman and George Baker (1998).
