FIRST EDITION, PRESENTATION COPY, inscribed by Coles Bashford to the Hon. William M. Robertson(?, inscription faded), Washington DC, February 15, 1856. The Republican Bashford challenged incumbent Governor Barstow’s right to the office following the election of 1855, charging “errors & frauds in returning & canvassing the votes.” He won the case, and served as Wisconsin's fifth Governor. Sabin 3883 (erroneously listing 1855 as the year of publication).
