FIRST EDITION, SIGNED by Welty on the half-title. Louis Untermeyer's copy, with his bookplate. A fine association: the poet, critic and editor Untermeyer was a consultant in poetry (along with Robert Frost) in 1940 when Welty attended Bread Loaf. Untermeyer's papers at NYPL contain two letters from Welty from 1962. Swearingen, p.4.
