This edition was authorized to reproduce the charming woodcuts of Frank Butler, a London-born artist who moved with his wife to Marblehead in 1924. The volume opens with his original textual introduction and is followed by the suite of woodcuts celebrating, in the words of the publisher, Marblehead "in a more tranquil era. To me, they capture the essence of the 'ancient charm, and rare individuality that is Marblehead.'" The original 1934 edition is quite scarce, and this 1971 reprint nearly so.
