This great and pregnant short story which took up most of an issue of the New Yorker, is important in American letters and certainly essential for a true Salinger collector.  It is a roadmap to Salinger's career and his tuning out the world of active publishing.  

This copy of the New Yorker in which the story appeared is one of three mint copies remaining  my stock.

Someone named Betty foolishly gave this book away and then the new owner sold it and here it is, a seemingly unread and near mint condition copy of this first novel by a terrific American writer who is widely collected.  Inscription on the title page from the author, Augusta, 9-1-94. Betty, by the way, signed her name on the flyleaf.  I will not embarrass her here by revealing it.
